Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), shared updates on the future of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara Capital (IKN) megaproject, under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.
According to AHY, the IKN megaproject will continue, focusing on the completion of its government center. “The continuation of IKN’s construction follows Prabowo’s directive, which emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the government center’s completion,” AHY stated on Sunday (12/01).
AHY explained that the development of the government center includes facilities for the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. He voiced, “The completion of IKN focuses on the central government, encompassing the executive, legislative, and judicial facilities. That’s where we will focus first.”
To achieve this, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development will collaborate with the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) to refine plans for the government center, including facilities for legislative and judicial functions. “We will coordinate closely with the OIKN—such as Mr. Basuki (OIKN Chair)—to streamline the planning for legislative centers like the parliament and judiciary facilities,” AHY noted.
AHY acknowledged that budget limitations significantly challenge continuing infrastructure projects, including IKN megaproject. The government is attracting local and international investors to fund these projects to overcome this. He added, “Our budget must also be allocated to other sectors. Fiscal limitations always constrain us. Hence, we strive to attract investments from domestic and international sources for various infrastructure projects.”
In advance, AHY expressed hope that the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) will play a role in the development. As a strategic government partner, Kadin is expected to connect private sector stakeholders—from large corporations to small and medium enterprises (SMEs)—to contribute to IKN’s infrastructure development. “I hope Kadin, as both a strategic government partner and an association representing businesses of all sizes, can engage everyone in infrastructure development,” AHY concluded.
