Heaptalk, Jakarta — To anticipate food shortages in traditional markets ahead of Ramadan 1445 H, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) visited Klender Market, East Jakarta, to examine the availability of nine basic foodstuffs and their prices (02/26).

According to Zulkifli’s observations, nine basic foodstuffs at Klender Market are available in sufficient quantities, including rice, eggs, and chicken. He gave a response to the increase in egg prices which skyrocketed from Rp29,000 per kg to R32,000. “Later we will see where the problem is. What is certain is that the price of corn feed for chickens is currently rising,” Zulkifli said in East Jakarta (02/06).

Further, Zulkifli conveyed that his party would provide an egg price subsidy of Rp1,000 per kg if the price of corn feed still rises. He added, “In this way, egg prices are expected to return to stability.”

In addition, his party will also hold a meeting with President Joko Widodo to discuss foodstuff conditions ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1445 H. Zulhas voiced, “Prices usually rise before Eid. Again, this is due to surging demand.”

Regarding the price of local premium rice which continues to rise, Zulhas revealed that currently, the supply of rice is limited due to delays in rice planting considering the transition to the rainy season. For this reason, the government is preparing an alternative plan by providing subsidized rice from Bulog’s program of food supply and price stabilization (SPHP). “The price is competitive, only Rp55,000 per 5 kg. The rice is also good. The taste is not much different from premium rice,” concluded Zulhas.
