Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan opened the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) 2025 modest fashion exhibition on Wednesday (09/10) at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Tangerang Regency, Banten.

Zulkifli expressed pride in the success of modest fashion as one of the drivers of national economic growth. In addition to increased exports, the Muslim fashion industry has also contributed to job creation. “This success aligns with the government’s goal of becoming the center of global Muslim fashion,” said Zulkifli on Wednesday (09/10).

According to Zulkifli, this modest international fashion exhibition and runway show are intentionally held alongside the 39th Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) from October 9–12, 2024. The aim is to promote Indonesia’s modest fashion and strengthen its capacity on the international stage.

He explained, “This event is also a form of the Ministry of Trade’s commitment to push for increased exports continuously and expanded market access for Indonesia’s top products. It’s an international platform that showcases the works of Indonesian designers and serves as a strategic moment to reinforce Indonesia’s role as the center of global modest fashion.”

At the event, Zulkifli stated, “As one of the drivers of national economic growth, the modest fashion industry will continue to be enhanced and take on a bigger role. With this significant potential, Indonesia is ready to play a greater role in the global modest fashion market.”

During the launch of JMFW 2025, Zulkifli highlighted, “According to the 2023 State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) report, Indonesia ranks 3rd out of 81 countries with the largest Islamic economy in the world. Indonesia also has the largest Muslim population globally, supported by cultural richness and many young workers. These advantages are potential strengths Indonesia can maximize to dominate the global halal industry.”

As part of the halal product sector, Indonesia’s modest fashion industry also shows promising growth. The global modest fashion market is expected to reach US$375 billion by 2025. This presents a significant opportunity for Indonesia to expand its market overseas and solidify its position as a critical player in modest fashion.

“This record demonstrates Indonesia’s vast opportunity to further penetrate markets, especially in countries with large Muslim communities such as Malaysia, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and European countries,” added Zulkifli Hasan.

Zulkifli also emphasized the importance of collaboration among various parties to tackle global challenges in modest fashion. These global challenges include design innovation, product quality, market expansion, and sustainability issues. With good synergy, he hopes to create attractive design innovations that align with market trends and consumer needs.
