Heaptalk, Jakarta — International Publishers Association (IPA), the world’s largest federation of publisher associations, will conduct the 33rd IPA World Congress on November 10th-12th, 2022, in Jakarta. Adopting Reading Matters – Embracing The Future as a theme, this international congress is believed to stimulate the bookkeeping and publishing industry in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
The COVID-19 pandemic has generated an overgrowing digital ecosystem, making the publishing industry seem forced to attune more quickly. For this reason, the IPA Congress implementation is contemplated to be an assembly to identify solutions for the publishing and bookkeeping industry.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Publishers Association (IKAPI), Arys Hilman, voiced his statement, “We are pleased that Jakarta was able to host the 33rd IPA World Congress. This activity is expected to spread the circulation of notions and a practice opportunity to revive the bookkeeping and publishing industry. As a representative of over 2,000 publishers in Indonesia, IKAPI commits to thrive in this congress. We are also honored to welcome the industry player to show up in Jakarta,”
The Indonesian publishing industry was the most productive in Southeast Asia in 2019. Jakarta, in particular, has successfully become a literacy epicenter for the last ten years. This nation’s capital has also contributed 25% of the national digital collection and has registered 14,906 International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN).
“DKI Jakarta Provincial Government greatly appreciated the presence of the executive delegates involved in monitoring the preparations. Jakarta is prepared to host the IPA World Congress 2022. The visitation is awaited to amplify this well-established collaboration and be an excellent starting point for the publishing industry restoration in Indonesia,” asserted Vice Governor of Jakarta Special Region Province, Ahmad Riza (5/17).
Furthermore, Executive Chair of Jakarta Book City, Laura Bangun Prinsloo, revealed that the process of realizing DKI Jakarta as the host of the IPA Congress has occurred since 2019. Seeing the dynamics in the publishing industry, Laura congratulates Jakarta for succeeding in hosting an international-scale Congress that representatives from 73 countries will attend.
In its implementation, the IPA Congress will discuss the growth of the publishing industry for two days. Concurrently, the committee also plans to involve the public by organizing a book fair and literacy festival on the event’s third day.
“We hope the congress can bring outstanding publishers who have adjusted to this dynamic environment to assist around 1,500 Indonesia’s publishers in discovering solutions for the bookkeeping industry in Indonesia,” affirmed Laura. (SFM)
