Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Jasa Marga, a state-owned enterprise in toll road operations, recorded that 426,539 vehicles left the Greater Jakarta area during the New Year holiday period from December 29-31, 2024. This traffic volume represents a 7.96% increase compared to the regular traffic of 395,101 vehicles.
These numbers are the cumulative traffic flow collected from four main toll gates: Cikupa (towards Merak), Ciawi (towards Puncak), Cikampek Utama (towards Trans Java), and Kalihurip Utama (towards Bandung). The distribution of traffic leaving Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi in three directions is as follows: 196,186 vehicles (46.0%) headed East (Trans Java and Bandung); 128,906 vehicles (30.2%) headed West (Merak); and 101,447 vehicles (23.8%) headed South (Puncak).
On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, one day before the New Year holiday, traffic leaving Greater Jakarta area at the four main toll gates was recorded at 126,734 vehicles, 2.7% lower than usual traffic (130,281 vehicles). “Jasa Marga recorded an increase in traffic towards Bandung on Tuesday (31/12) at Kalihurip Utama Toll Gate, with 31,463 vehicles, an increase of 21.5% from normal traffic (25,898 vehicles),” stated Lisye Octaviana, Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head of Jasa Marga.
She further projected the peak return traffic for the 2025 New Year period to occur on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. To prevent congestion, she advised road users to avoid traveling during peak times and popular travel times such as mornings and evenings.
Road users can also take advantage of a 10% toll discount on the Trans Java Toll Road on Friday, January 3, 2025, for continuous return trips from Semarang to Jakarta (Kalikangkung Main Toll Gate to Cikampek Main Toll Gate).
