Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), a state-owned enterprise engaged in rail transportation, recorded the sale of 2,059,937 tickets out of a total seating capacity of 3,572,588 as of Monday (12/23) for the Christmas and New Year 2024/2025 holiday.

These tickets consist of long-distance and local trains. Long-distance train tickets have sold 1,804,822 (65%) out of 2,770,864 tickets. Local train tickets have reached 255,115 (32%) out of 801,724 tickets. From December 19 to December 23, during the Nataru period, KAI transported 800,066 passengers within Java and Sumatra.

This year, the company implemented several Christmas and New Year transportation strategies, such as ramp checks, joint inspections, and integrated posts. To anticipate the passenger surge, 62 additional trains are also operated. KAI also anticipates disruptions to facilities and infrastructure, enhancing security and order and improving safety.

KAI adds extra guards and inspectors

“Anticipating facility disruptions. We maintain and monitor our facilities, but there is still potential for disruptions. Therefore, we utilize post facilities, including reserve locomotives, reserve generator cars, and cranes placed in several areas as a precaution. If any incident occurs, the response will be quick,” stated Didiek Hartantyo, President Director of PT KAI, in a press conference at the Ministry of SOEs, Central Jakarta (12/23).

Furthermore, Didiek said that his party has added extra crossing guards, track inspectors, and personnel in vulnerable areas to anticipate the possibility of floods and landslides during this rainy season.

KAI has also deployed 249 new-generation trains, including economy, executive, and luxury classes. These new trains have several facilities, including reclining seats, revolving seats, spacious legroom, USB port chargers, door buttons, passenger information display systems (PIDS), prayer rooms, new dining cars, clean sinks and toilets, and baby changing tables.
