Heaptalk, Jakarta — Yayasan Jantung Indonesia (YJI) has demonstrated its commitment by actively participating in the GAMMA World MMA Championships 2024. This globally renowned mixed martial arts (MMA) tournament will take place from December 6 to 14, 2024, at the Dewa United Arena in Tangerang, Banten.
Heart disease, frequently perceived as an ailment affecting the elderly, has increasingly become a threat to individuals across all age groups. Many cardiovascular diseases today stem from unhealthy lifestyles, which can be mitigated by adopting healthy habits early on.
“A healthy lifestyle encompasses daily practices that promote physical and mental well-being. Engaging in adequate physical activity is one such practice, essential for maintaining health and fitness,” emphasized YJI Ambassador Mikha Tambayong during a press conference in Pagedangan, BSD, Banten, on Monday (9/12).
Yayasan Jantung Indonesia has set up free health check-ups for visitors throughout the event to support this prestigious MMA championship further. Attendees are offered daily screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar levels, underscoring the organization’s dedication to preventative healthcare.
MMA, or mixed martial arts, blends techniques from various martial arts disciplines. It offers not only self-defense skills but also significant health benefits, such as burning a substantial number of calories.
“Each MMA training session, which incorporates elements from multiple martial arts, burns calories effectively, aiding weight loss and reducing the risk of metabolic diseases like heart disease,” explained Dr. Bambang Dwiputra, Sp.JP(K), a cardiovascular specialist.
Through its involvement in this event, YJI aims to broaden its advocacy beyond low-intensity exercises such as walking, cycling, or swimming to include high-intensity activities like MMA. While physical activity is closely tied to overall health, YJI stresses the importance of health screenings before engaging in such routines to ensure participants are physically capable.
“Yayasan Jantung Indonesia is raising awareness about preventing heart and cardiovascular diseases among the younger generation. By empowering them to become change agents, they can act as smart influencers within their families, workplaces, communities, and schools,” concluded Iwet Ramadhan, Head of Communications at YJI.
