Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (InJourney), a state-owned holding company in the aviation and tourism sector, is redesigning the Borobudur area to transform it into a world-class tourist destination.
This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with one of its subsidiaries, PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko (TWC), also known as InJourney Destination Management (IDM). According to Maya Watono, Director of Marketing and Tourism Programs at InJourney, this effort aims to create a better future for the coming generations.
“Revamping Borobudur is not just about physical improvements; it’s also about providing a brighter future for future generations. With a sustainable approach, we are committed to keeping Borobudur vibrant and relevant amidst changing times,” Maya said.
Borobudur Temple, one of the five Super Priority Tourism Destinations, is being developed into a world-class tourist site that is in line with InJourney’s commitment to building inclusive destinations. Maya emphasized that they want to ensure Borobudur is not only viewed as a relic of the past but also as a symbol of hope and innovation that will continue to evolve to achieve world-class tourism status.
She added, “Through the re-masterplan and revitalization programs, Borobudur will not only focus on maintaining its position as the largest Buddhist monument in the world but also become a more inclusive and sustainable center for spirituality, education, and culture.”
Adding green areas
InJourney is undertaking several strategic projects, particularly focusing on the development of Zone 2, which includes adding green areas through reforestation. One of the main focuses of this plan is the establishment of the Borobudur Spiritual Sanctuary, a center designed for meditation, education, and the preservation of spiritual values.
With these facilities, Borobudur will become a space for visitors to admire its physical beauty and experience the spiritual power it embodies. Additionally, IDM is adopting a more environmentally friendly approach in the development of Zone 2.
Febrina Intan, President Director of IDM, revealed the company’s plans to reduce the building coefficient in the Borobudur area to below 4%, as recommended by UNESCO, to create a more harmonious and comfortable environment. She stated, “These green open spaces will not only beautify the area but also provide a space for contemplation for visitors who wish to enjoy the serene natural surroundings of the temple.”
New facilities such as landscaped gardens, a museum, and the Borobudur Art Village will enhance Borobudur’s appeal as a center for arts and culture. The Borobudur Art Village will be built on an area of 10.74 hectares and is designed to enhance the visitor experience with various modern amenities.
