Heaptalk, Jakarta — The East Kutai Regency Government plans to build the Sangatta-Rantau Pulung Road to facilitate public mobility and boost the local economy.
Residents have long complained about the condition of the main road, which is a vital transportation artery, primarily during the rainy season. The deteriorating road conditions make it difficult for two- and four-wheeled vehicles to pass.
“Almost every day, I receive messages via WhatsApp from Rantau Pulung residents complaining about the road condition. Therefore, I emphasized to everyone here that today I have ordered the Bina Marga Division of the Public Works Department to immediately write a letter to the CEO of PT KPC to avoid any overlap later,” stated Ardiansyah.
The construction of this road is planned to start this year. However, the work cannot be done simultaneously as it has been included in the budget revision preparations. He said, “But we will do what we can properly. What we can’t manage, we will handle ourselves.”
Ardiansyah also mentioned that PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) was supposed to build the main road connecting Sangatta with Rantau Pulung District due to an agreement with the East Kutai Regency Government. However, as of 2023, PT KPC had not completed the road construction as agreed. This situation frustrated Ardiansyah, prompting him to take over the project.
“Earlier, I instructed the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department to send a letter to the CEO of PT KPC. We request to take over the road since it was supposed to be completed by 2023. However, to date, there has been no progress. I do not understand why it hasn’t been completed, as PT KPC only officially visited my office once in 2022,” he concluded.
