Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesian Minister of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi received a visit from the UK Minister for Cabinet Office John Glen. During the meeting, Budi welcomed Glen’s visit and explored opportunities for collaboration in reinforcing digital transformation.

“I am optimistic that this meeting will facilitate a fruitful exchange of views, foster greater understanding, and lay the groundwork for potential collaboration between our nations,” Budi stated at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (05/14).

According to him, digital technology is a pivotal driver of growth across development sectors. Citing World Bank data for 2022, Budi highlighted that the digital sector’s contribution was a substantial 15% of the global Gross Domestic Product. He emphasized, “It has grown 2.5 times faster over the last ten years than physical world GDP.”

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s growth rate in 2045 is projected to encourage national economic growth to reach 6.2% per year. “Digital transformation is expected to contribute to 20.7% of Indonesia’s GDP,” he added.

Budi further stated that new technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), also provides breakthroughs and transformations in various sectors. He said, “AI has become a global issue. Only 37 countries worldwide have issued regulations related to developing AI.”

In addition, Budi emphasized that the Indonesian Government is responsive to developments in AI technology by issuing a Circular Letter of the Minister of Communication and Informatics No. 9 of 2023 on AI Ethics Guidelines. “As a developing country, Indonesia is also actively involved in many international forums discussing this technology, including the AI Safety Summit held by the UK in Bletchley in 2023,” he underscored.

Budi Arie expressed his enthusiasm for discussing cooperation opportunities with the British Government. “I am sure this meeting will explore our direction towards potential future cooperation,” he concluded.
