Heaptalk, Jakarta — Monday (18/03) the Ministry of Manpower announced that online motorcycle taxi drivers are entitled to obtain Eid al-Fitr bonuses (THR) in 2024. According to the Ministry’s statement, the drivers are categorized as Fixed Time Employment Agreement (PKWT) category, although the work status is a partnership. For this reason, in accordance with the Circular Letter of the Minister of Manpower Number M/2/HK.04/III/2024 concerning the Implementation of Providing Religious Holiday Allowances in 2024 for Workers/Labourers in Companies, the drivers have the right to gain THR.

Responding to this statement, Gojek’s SVP Corporate Affairs, Rubi W. Purnomo, in a press release, Thursday (20/03) said that his party respected the advice and was ready to follow the regulations. “We respect the advice issued by the Ministry of Manpower and always follow government regulations and applicable regulations,”

He explained. “We understand that the relation between company and the drivers is a partnership, and is not included in the form of a work relationship such as Fixed Time Employment Agreement (PKWT), Permanent Employment Agreement (PKWTT), and other work status,” he continued, “However,  aligns with Gojek’s long-term commitment and strategy, the company continues to support the government’s efforts to maintain the welfare of driver partners.”

According to him, since 2016, Gojek has had a Gojek Swadaya program which is aimed at reducing operational costs for driver partners, and has been enjoyed by millions of partners throughout Indonesia. Swadaya program has special agenda at certain moments in Indonesia, including Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

Meanwhile, Grab, through the Chief of Public Affairs for Grab Indonesia, Tirza R Munusamy, explained on Tuesday (19/3/2024) that the company has prepared special incentives for the Eid al-Fitr holiday for driver partners.

He added, “The provision of special incentives on the first and second days of Eid follows the mandate of Minister of Manpower Regulation Number 6 of 2016,”

However, Tirza did not specify the nominal incentive calculation or the scheme. “In accordance with the urge from the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower that the form, amount and mechanism of holiday allowances can be given in various forms and adjusted by each applicant,” he concluded.
