Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s mobile operator, XL Axiata, and Huawei announced a significant milestone toward 5G by launching a fully converged core network. This measure network supports 2G, 4G, and 5G NSA and services, initially serving the critical area of Jakarta.

With this deployment, XL Axiata will enhance user experience by delivering ultra-high bandwidth and ultra-low latency to end users. The new infrastructure will also drive digital transformation across multiple industries, including manufacturing, government, mining, and ports, ensuring high efficiency and future readiness.

“We are proud to announce this solid step toward 5G. This is made possible through our successful partnership with Huawei. This network supports 5G and enhances the experience for our 4G users. In collaboration with Huawei, we intend to drive Indonesia’s digital transformation.” XL Axiata’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), I Gede Darmayusa, said.

This fully converged core network offers XL Axiata a seamless service across 2G, 4G, and 5G NSA & SA, protecting previous network investments while enabling smooth and scalable evolution. This architecture ensures top-tier performance in handling the increasing traffic demands expected in Jakarta.

The network’s multi-level disaster tolerance capabilities, such as system-level flow control and signaling storm prevention mechanisms, guarantee exceptional reliability with zero service interruptions. Built on a cloud-native 2.0 architecture and a container-based microservice platform, the core network enables rapid service innovation and significantly reduces rollout times for new services.

The enhanced core network also supports XL Axiata’s goals in both consumer (toC) and business (toB) segments. Its ultra-high bandwidth capabilities are ideal for VR, AR, and cloud gaming services. At the same time, advanced solutions like Public Network Integrated Non-Public Netowork (PNI-NPN) and mobile VPN enable efficient connections for industries like manufacturing, supporting the swift development of new enterprise services.

“Huawei is honored to continue its successful collaboration with XL Axiata. As a global ICT leader, we are confident that our fully converged core network will deliver a world-class experience to XL Axiata’s customers,” Kevin Zhou, Director of Carrier Network Business Group (CNBG) of Huawei Indonesia, said.
