Jakarta, 14 October 2026 — The 41st Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) officially opened on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City, Tangerang, Banten, and will run until 18 October 2026. Positioning Indonesia as a global sourcing hub, TEI 2026 brings together 1,873 participating companies and targets a total transaction value of USD 17.5 billion.
At the Opening Ceremony, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso emphasized that TEI is a strategic platform to expand market access, establish trade partnerships, and attract investment cooperation. The presence of buyers from 134 countries reflects strong global interest in Indonesia’s leading products and reinforces TEI’s role as a platform for Indonesia’s global economic diplomacy.
The remarks of President Prabowo Subianto were delivered by Bahlil Lahadalia, Coordinating Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Downstreaming and Energy Transition. The Government underscored the importance of foreign trade as a driver of industrial downstreaming, job creation, stronger national economic resilience, and regional economic development across Indonesia.
TEI 2026 also serves as a platform for advancing Indonesia’s energy security and food security agendas. Plantation commodities, particularly palm oil, play a strategic role, as their derivatives support biodiesel development, reduce dependence on imported diesel fuel, and increase the added value of national exports.
The Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) is a strategic partner in this agenda. BPDP manages palm oil export levies to fund the Smallholders’ Palm Oil Replanting Program, biodiesel development, research and innovation, human resource development, and MSME empowerment, while strengthening downstream processing and the competitiveness of the national palm oil industry.
Plantation commodities, particularly palm oil, serve as an important link between exports, energy, and farmers’ welfare. Indonesia’s palm oil export value makes it one of the country’s largest sources of foreign exchange, while a significant share of exports now consists of downstream products such as food-grade CPO, oleochemicals, and biodiesel. The presence of plantation products and their derivatives at TEI gives Indonesia an opportunity to demonstrate the sector’s shift from exporting raw materials toward producing higher-value-added goods.
The strengthening of national green energy is increasingly connected to TEI 2026 through the development of renewable energy and bioenergy. Plantation waste, such as empty fruit bunches, palm kernel shells, and palm fiber, has the potential to be used as biomass for solid fuels, electricity, and biofuel. The synergy between TEI and BPDP is expected to accelerate green energy downstreaming while creating new export opportunities for Indonesia.
Through its Food, Beverage, and Agricultural Products Zone, TEI also promotes food security by expanding markets for Indonesia’s processed food products and agricultural commodities.
Stronger export markets are expected to increase farmers’ income, encourage product diversification, and strengthen the national food value chain. Nutritional food security can also be supported through the use of plantation commodities, including the development of red palm oil, which is rich in provitamin A and E and has broad market potential.
Empowering MSMEs and plantation farmer cooperatives is key to increasing added value, expanding market access, and ensuring that economic benefits reach farmers. Through business incubation and entrepreneurship initiatives based on plantation commodities, MSMEs can develop processed food products and other derivative products, thereby strengthening food security while opening up new export opportunities.
The Government hopes that the synergy between TEI as a gateway to global markets and BPDP as a driver of the plantation value chain will accelerate Indonesia’s economic transformation.
This collaboration is aimed at strengthening exports, energy security, food security, and Indonesia’s position in global economic diplomacy.
