Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Integrasi Jaringan Ekosistem (WEAVE), a subsidiary of PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (SURGE), has secured a significant strategic investment from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation (NTT East), a key subsidiary of Japan’s NTT Group. Under the agreement, NTT East will acquire a 49% stake in WEAVE through an investment valued at US$238 million or around Rp4 trillion, comprising both equity participation and non-cash contributions.
More detail, the capital injection will be allocated toward the large-scale development of a Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network across Indonesia, focusing on expanding affordable, reliable, and inclusive broadband access, particularly in underserved and rural regions. Furthermore, the cooperation aims to establish local edge computing infrastructure integrated with AI, supporting cloud access, real-time analytics, and automation services for SMEs and MSMEs.
“This investment marks the beginning of a wide-scale journey. By combining SUURGE’s infrastructure reach and NTT East’s operational excellence, we aim to deliver affordable broadband access, Internet Rakyat, to more than 40 million households across Indonesia. Our next milestone is building edge computing integrated with AI capabilities to empower SMEs with advanced digital tools,” said President Director and CEO of SURGE, Yune Marketatmo.
Technology Transfer and Operational Excellence
Through this strategic collaboration, SURGE’s subsidiary WEAVE will benefit from NTT East’s decades-long expertise in building, operating, and maintaining advanced fiber optic infrastructure. The partnership will include structured programs for:
- Technology and knowledge transfer
- Quality management systems
- Infrastructure design standardization
- Human resource development
This comprehensive approach is expected to strengthen SURGE and WEAVE’s operational capacity while ensuring world-class quality and scalability.
“NTT East is deeply committed to creating long-term societal value through technology and collaboration. This strategic investment will accelerate SURGE’s goal of providing Internet Rakyat. This is not about empowering the people of Indonesia,” Naoki Shibutani, the President and CEO of NTT East, conveyed.
The company claimed that this strategic alliance aligned with the Indonesian government’s national digital roadmap, particularly the goals of increasing broadband penetration and narrowing the digital divide.
“With NTT East’s involvement, we are confident this collaboration will help achieve national digital infrastructure targets and strengthen the foundation for smart city development, education, and the digital economy.” Commissioner of PT Jaringan Infra Andalan (JIA), Fadel Muhammad, concluded.
As is known, the official signing ceremony was held in Jakarta and attended by senior executives from both companies, including Naoki Shibutani, President and CEO of NTT East, and Arwin Rasyid, Vice Chairman of PT Jaringan Infra Andalan (JIA).
