Medco E&P analyzed the potential for gas produced by the Flamboyan-1 exploration well to reach 5.4 MMSCFD.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) in collaboration with the production-sharing contractors Medco E&P succeeded in discovering new gas reserves through the Flamboyan-1 exploration well located at South Sumatra Block.
Deputy of Exploration, Development, and Work Area Management of SKK Migas Benny Lubiantara delivered that the analysis resulted that the Flamboyan-1 exploration well test produced high-quality gas with an initial flow rate of 5.4 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) at 2,050 psig of flowing tubing head pressure.
“Flamboyan-1 well was drilled on October 10, 2022, with a target depth of 5,800 feet located in the Baturaja Formation. Currently, we are still waiting for the results of further tests to confirm the number of reserves found. Based on the analysis, this well has the potential to produce gas of 15 MMSCFD,” said Benny in Jakarta (12/27).
The findings show that Indonesia still has a large potential for natural gas. Therefore, SKK Migas and its production-sharing contractors will accelerate the existing process to immediately take advantage of the existing oil and gas reserves.
Further, Benny conveyed, “This finding is important for accomplishing the national target of oil and gas production. In addition, in the energy transition phase where gas plays an essential role, we hope that this gas production can be immediately utilized by the domestic market.”
Meanwhile, President Director of Medco E&P Ronald Gunawan conveyed that the success of the Flamboyan-1 exploration well will encourage the continuation of other exploration activities in the surrounding area.
“Apart from that, we are also optimistic that the monetization of this exploration discovery can be carried out promptly since the location is close to the production facilities that have been installed,” concluded Ronald.
