Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Jambaran-Tiung Biru (JTB) gas unitization field development project located in Bandungrejo, Ngasem, Bojonegoro, East Java successfully carried out the first gas flow called gas on stream (GoS) on Tuesday (20/9). GoS is the stage of conveying gas from the gas processing facility (GPF) to the metering area to be conveyed to buyers through distribution pipelines.
The distribution of the prime gas marks a new chapter of the JTB project managed by PT Pertamina EP Cepu (PEPC), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi as the upstream sub-holding towards the gas production phase. Previously, on August 2022, Pertamina EP Cepu in collaboration with implementing partners flowed gas from the well to the gas processing facility, also called gas in, as part of an important stage for the JTB project.
President Director of Pertamina EP Cepu, Awang Lazuardi, delivered that the gas on-stream process has gone through crucial stages full of challenges, as a result of the hard work of all parties involved in the JTB gas project. “We can overcome various challenges together and finally JTB gas can be flowed to the metering to be distributed to buyers. Thus, JTB gas has officially made a real contribution to the fulfillment of national energy,” said Awang.
President Joko Widodo appointed PT Pertamina Persero to handle the JTB project as one of the national strategic projects (PSN) in the energy sector, particularly gas production. The appointment is made through Presidential Decree Number 109 of 2020 on the Acceleration of Implementation of National Strategic Projects.
JTB is expected to be one of the largest potential gas producers in Indonesia reaching 192 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). Of this amount, 100 MMSCFD has been prepared to meet the needs of the State Electricity Company’s power plant (PT PLN).
Separately, the Head of SKK Migas, Dwi Soetjipto, said that the presence of the JTB gas project not only contributed to increasing national oil and gas production but also created a multiplier effect. The project has helped drive national supporting industries as well as local entrepreneurs and the community around the project. Thus, the existence of the JTB project is necessary to increase the national capacity, particularly in supporting economic development around the project.
Dwi voiced, “Another positive aspect of the success of this project is the fulfillment of regional energy needs and the availability of industrial raw materials to support economic growth.” He added that the JTB gas project will provide large gas availability in Java Island to encourage economic growth both regionally and nationally.
The gas distribution line will be integrated along with the construction of the Semarang-Cirebon gas pipeline. The integration will allow the gas supply from JTB to be utilized by the industrial sector in East Java and Central Java through the Gresik-Semarang pipeline gas transportation route. Moreover, the project also plays a role in fulfilling the gas demand in West Java.
“In addition to the momentum of national economic recovery, the success of the Gas on Stream JTB Project will increase gas supply, making an impact on support to increase national industrial capacity. Therefore, the project will impact positively on economic recovery,” said Dwi.
In his conclusion, Dwi hoped that the accomplishment of the JTB gas project will be an important milestone in efforts to achieve the target in 2030 to produce 1 million barrels of oil and 12 BSCFD of gas.
