Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Karya Sumadi, visited GIIAS 2024 held at ICE BSD, Tangerang. During his visit, the Minister met automotive industry leaders and toured the exhibition to observe the latest innovations offered by various leading brands.
Budi emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the advancement of Indonesia’s automotive industry. He also appreciated the organization of GIIAS 2024, which showcased a variety of eco-friendly electric vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and buses. The Minister visited several electric vehicle stands in various exhibition areas.
Furthermore, the Minister encouraged the development of a domestic battery ecosystem for electric vehicles. He noted that battery prices for these vehicles are relatively high, accounting for about 30% – 40% of the total vehicle cost.
“Besides importing batteries from other countries, we conduct comprehensive research. Therefore, the government has collaborated with universities to create more economical and durable electric vehicle batteries,” said the Budi Karya.
The Minister expressed his appreciation to all parties who participated in and supported the organization of this large-scale automotive exhibition.
He also hopes that this event can stimulate the independence of the national automotive industry and strengthen Indonesia’s position on the international stage, ultimately boosting the country’s foreign exchange earnings. The government has issued various regulations and policies to support accelerating the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) program for road transportation.
The Ministry of Transportation’s support includes fiscal incentive policies for type test tariffs and Type Test Certificate tariffs, both for new BEVs and converted vehicles. On this occasion, the Minister also encouraged the public to increase their use of public transportation with the arrival of increasingly high-quality buses.
“Overall, the buses exhibited at GIIAS 2024 are good, complete with attractive features. I hope this condition can encourage people to switch to public transportation, whether urban public or intercity transport,” he concluded.
