Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia-based payment infrastructure provider (PIP) ALTO Network has reinforced its commitment to advancing digital payment solutions by integrating QRIS Tap technology powered by Near Field Communication (NFC). Officially introduced by Bank Indonesia (14/03), this initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of financial transactions, particularly in the retail and transportation sectors, by enabling seamless and secure cashless payments.
To drive this innovation forward, ALTO collaborates with Netzme as an acquirer and ShopeePay as an issuer. This initiative was showcased during the Bazaar Treadmark event, held from March 13–16, 2025, at the MRT Bundaran HI area in Jakarta. Attendees had the opportunity to experience firsthand the convenience of QRIS Tap NFC, which allows users to complete transactions simply by tapping their NFC-enabled smartphones against a merchant’s soundbox device, eliminating the need for QR code scanning.
Unlike traditional QRIS, which requires users to scan a QR code via their smartphone camera, QRIS Tap NFC streamlines the process, allowing payments to be completed with a quick tap. This advancement will accelerate digital transaction adoption, particularly among public transportation users and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
QRIS Tap NFC offers several advantages, including a faster and more efficient payment process since users no longer need to open cameras or scan a QR code. Additionally, its contactless nature enhances transaction convenience and hygiene. The technology is also designed to be user-friendly, making it accessible to a broad audience with NFC-enabled devices.
ALTO Network’s CEO, Gretel Griselda, delivered that the company’s measure aims to support Bank Indonesia’s target of achieving 6.5 billion QRIS Tap NFC transactions in 2025, with 58 million users and 40 million merchants nationwide.
“Beyond domestic adoption, Bank Indonesia also drives efforts to expand QRIS into international markets. The strategic collaboration between ALTO, Netzme, and ShopeePay will contribute to building a digital payment ecosystem that is more inclusive, seamless, secure, and efficient. Additionally, around 12 financial institutions, including banks and digital banks, are set to join ALTO in expanding this ecosystem,” Gretel added.
ALTO and its partners will continue investing in cutting-edge technology to ensure secure and reliable transactions while supporting Bank Indonesia’s national financial inclusion initiatives as part of its long-term strategy. With an increasingly robust infrastructure, QRIS Tap NFC is expected to become a new benchmark for digital payments in Indonesia and beyond.
