Corridor Block located in South Sumatra produces gas lifting of more than 770 MMSCFD, 107% above the 2022 state budget target of 725 MMSCFD.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Corridor Block, which is operated by an oil and gas company in Indonesia Medco E&P Grissik, contributed to the second-largest lifting in national gas production. As of December 31, 2022, Corridor Block is recorded to have produced gas lifting of more than 770 million standard cubic meters per day (MMSCFD), 107% above the 2022 state budget target of 725 MMSCFD. Meanwhile, oil lifting at the Corridor Block has reached more than 6,200 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).
Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) conducted a working visit and supervised oil and gas lifting in the Corridor Block which is located in South Sumatra at the end of 2022. The visit aims to ensure lifting activities run safely and smoothly and discuss steps to accelerate work, programs, and budget (WP&B) 2023.
In the lifting activity, the Deputy for Finance and Commercialization of SKK Migas Kurnia Chairi expressed his appreciation for the performance achievements that have exceeded the 2022 state budget target. The transition of the Corridor Block which is now entirely managed by a national company demonstrates the ability of the nation’s workforce to manage natural wealth, in this case, oil and gas very well.
“Amid high world gas prices, surely, the achievement of gas lifting in the Corridor Block not only strengthens the national gas balance but also provides state revenue to develop this country and stronger trust in the nation’s children in managing the upstream oil and gas industry,” said Kurnia.
Kurnia added that good performance resulted from hard work and high dedication of Medco E&P in carrying out the 2022 work programs. He also appreciated the oil and gas infrastructure in South Sumatra is well-developed and integrated with buyers.
Given the increasingly strong role of gas in the energy transition era, as well as the promising potential of gas in Sumatra, SKK Migas expected increased production from Medco E&P in the future to support sustainable national development and contribute to state revenue.
Further, Kurnia asked Medco E&P to carry out the 2023 program properly and coordinate intensively with SKK Migas to achieve the 2023 state budget target. All the effort is expected to contribute to achieving 1 million BOPD of oil production and 12 BSCFD gas by 2030.
VP Relations and Security at Medco E&P Arif Rinaldi conveyed that the Corridor Block prioritizes worker safety and maintains operational reliability. “We hope that in 2023, the synergy of Medco E&P and SKK Migas can provide the best performance in the management and development of the Corridor Block,” said Arif.
To carry out the excellent performance, Medco E&P needs the support of all parties as demonstrated in 2022. “As efforts are being made in 2022, certainly with support from both the central and regional government, operations can run smoothly.
“Due to the good cooperation of the National Armed Forces and the State Police as well as the role of the community around the work area, we succeeded to maintain energy security, particularly in the upstream oil and gas sector,” concluded Kurnia.
