Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BPJS Kesehatan at the Ministry of National Development headquarters. The MoU aims to enhance the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through Indonesia’s National Health Insurance Program (JKN).
Minister of National Development Planning Rachmat Pambudy stated that the MoU aligns with Indonesia’s Vision 2045 goals for a Sovereign, Advanced, and Sustainable Nation.
“Achieving Vision 2045 requires us to reach advanced economic status with reduced poverty and inequality, a Human Capital Index of 0.75, and, most critically, strong national health,” said Minister Rachmat.
The partnership between Bappenas and BPJS Kesehatan encompasses a range of initiatives, including data sharing, research on JKN policies, and capacity building to enhance planning and data analysis capabilities. It also includes monitoring and evaluating UHC-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development achievements.
“Our goal is to improve the quality of health services for Indonesians through JKN, which depends on active participation,” emphasized Rachmat.
BPJS Kesehatan President Director Ghufron added that through this collaboration, BPJS aims to bolster the quality of inclusive health services across Indonesia in alignment with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
“With over 98 percent of Indonesia’s population enrolled in UHC, we are ensuring financial protection, access to essential health services, safe and affordable medicines, and vaccines,” Ghufron noted.
During the event, the first volume of the “Indonesia Population Morbidity Table” was launched, offering critical insights into national disease burdens using data from sources like the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, the Indonesian Life Insurance Association, and the 2023 Health Survey by the Ministry of Health.
BPJS Kesehatan’s Director of Planning and Development Mahlil Ruby described the morbidity data as a statistical reference and a crucial tool for health service planning and financial estimations for the JKN program in the medium to long term.
Minister Rachmat highlighted BPJS Kesehatan’s essential role in realizing Vision 2045. The MoU supports the achievement of UHC targets by 2030 and informs strategic planning for the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for 2025 – 2029.
“BPJS Kesehatan is pivotal in our journey toward the Indonesia Emas 2045,” Rachmat affirmed.
