The acquisition move of Ruangguru has completed the K-12 learning system of Kien Guru, which has been used by more than 2.5 million students in Vietnam for the last four years.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia-based ed-tech startup, Ruangguru, has officially acquired Vietnam’s live teaching startup, Mclass, for an undisclosed amount. Through this strategic move, this education technology company aims to broaden its business reach and elevate its capability in this region.
Previously, the East Ventures-backed ed-tech startup expanded its presence to Vietnam with the brand identity of Kien Guru in 2019. According to the company, Vietnam has become the primary market of Ruangguru due to possessing the equivalent issues to Indonesia in terms of the education sector.
In response to this strategic acquisition, Ruangguru’s Co-Founder and CEO, Belva Devara, believes in the robust reputation and ability of Mclass in online learning to broaden attractive offerings and uplift the company business leap in Vietnam and Southeast Asia as well as fill out the learning service of Ruangguru.
“Our vision is to be Southeast Asia’s leading education technology company. We believe this acquisition is a further step towards achieving this goal,” the CEO Belva said. Mclass, founded by Nguyen Van Khai and Nguyen Minh Thang in 2019, continues to amplify its position as one of Vietnam’s most well-known online learning platforms. This platform has collaborated with numerous outstanding teachers in the country to proffer a live teaching session on diverse disciplines, covering sciences, literature, math, and IELTS.
Through its innovative learning approach, Mclass has seized positive responses from its customers, such as students or their parents. Proving outstanding achievement, this online learning app can attract about 10 million followers on its social media, with live teaching accomplishments followed by 85,000 students simultaneously reaching 1 million of the video replay for one learning session in 2022.
