Heaptalk, Jakarta — Amazon Web Services (AWS) disclosed that the employees in several organizations continue to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to increase their work performance, which eventually will impact on the growth of the employees’ salaries.
According to its latest report, around 36% of the workforce with skills in the AI field is predicted to receive a salary increase. Besides, AWS’s report shows that employees in the information technology (53%) and research and development (49%) divisions are estimated to receive higher salary growth.
“An AI wave around the Asia Pacific region has transformed how businesses operate. The growing number of organizations expected to utilize AI tools will deepen and create a need for employers and governments to develop a workforce capable of driving AI developments in coming years,” said Abhineet Kaul, Director of Access Partnership.
In addition to significant salary increases, around 98% of Indonesian employees look forward to their AI capabilities positively impacting their careers, including increased work efficiency, interest in developing intellectually, and accelerated careers.
Furthermore, the data revealed that the archipelago’s workforce of around 96% of Indonesian workers from diverse generations demonstrate interest in developing AI skills to accelerate their careers. The generations include:
- Around 97% of Gen Z, 98% of Millenials, and 93% of Gen X intend to advance their skills in artificial intelligence.
- Around 75% of baby boomers admitted they would improve their AI skills if offered the opportunity to take field courses.
The data also elaborated on the productivity returns from an AI-enabled workforce that could be huge for Indonesia. Regarding business operations, around 57% of Indonesian business players expect to boost their productivity. AI utilization can enhance innovations and creativity by up to 78%, automate repetitive loads by up to 77%, and improve workflow and results by up to 74%. Moreover, almost all companies (99%) predict that they will become AI-driven organizations by 2028.

Breaking the barriers to AI-skilled in Indonesia
The latest research of AWS also reveals an AI skills gap that must be addressed to put Indonesia in a more optimal position to unlock AI’s productivity benefits. Based on the findings, hiring talent with AI skills is a priority for around 96% of Indonesian entrepreneurs. However, the study showcased that around 69% of respondents needed help discovering the required AI talents.
Besides, the gap in AI training is also an obstacle, with around 67% of employers needing to learn how to undertake AI training programs for their workforce. In comparison, 54% of workers expressed insufficient knowledge about AI training programs.
The survey also demonstrated the urgency of strengthening strategic cooperation between government, industry, and educators to assist Indonesian entrepreneurs in implementing AI training programs and guiding employees in acquiring the AI skills they have.
