Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, delivered that the government continues to enhance the data center industry to sustain the national digital transformation as he perceived that the archipelago also contained significant demands for this data center.
Moreover, he explained that the adoption of digital technology is increasing rapidly, spurring increased data center needs. According to government data, data center growth will reach 25,000 megawatts by 2023 globally. Meanwhile, data predicts Southeast Asia’s data center will grow more significantly than the world average, from 1,161 megawatts to 2,733 megawatts in 2028.
“Indonesia’s data centers possess enormous potential, estimated at around US$47 billion. With this tremendous opportunity, he looks forward to the companies in this sector can serve the community, specifically in the digital ecosystem, as a critical element in digital transformation,” Budi added during the Topping-off ceremony of the Bersama Digital Data Center (BDDC) in East Jakarta. In his further statement, Budi elaborated that accelerating digital transformation also needs an adequate digital infrastructure. Nevertheless, the Telkom industry still possesses three issues: coverage, capacity, and quality. Also, he affirmed that the network speed aspect also must be strengthened.
For this reason, he claimed the government supported the development of the data center. On the other hand, the Ministry of Tech also strives to uplift internet access speed nationally. In progress, he claimed that his party was still reviewing the plan with President Jokowi, one of which is through revising statutory regulations.
Minister Budi also encouraged the development of technology infrastructure with adequate interconnectivity in strategic locations because this aspect can promote the growth of Indonesia’s digital ecosystem.
As the data center manager of the company, the President Commissioner of Bersama Digital Data Centres (BDDC) continues to focus on providing a collaboration platform between digital players to encourage digital economic growth in the country. With the completion of the BDDC JST 1, he hopes to be a digital hub to create high interconnectivity in the city.
