The Ministry hopes the green investment in rayon fiber can be a role model and inspiration to other companies.
Heaptalk, Jakarta – Indonesia, which aggressively promotes the green industry, appreciates PT South Pacific Viscose (PT SPV) for its measure to invest US$100 million to build green rayon viscose.
According to the largest Indonesian rayon producer, the fresh fund is allocated to diversify its products and transform its technology by developing green rayon viscose, Lenzing Ecovero. This product is made from renewable natural resources, with less water impact and low carbon emission.
Acting General Director of Pharmaceutical, Chemistry, and Textiles of The Ministry of Industry Taufiek Bawazier conveyed that this investment will create 1,500 job opportunities.
He added that textile products and the textile industry (TPT) are the primary sectors that support the national economy, considering its contribution to national GDP and workforce absorption. For this reason, the Ministry fully supports the company’s action to move to green technology.
“The launch of Lenzing Ecovero can be a role model and inspiration to other companies. In addition to conducting transformation, the measure also will leverage international market absorption,” said Taufiek during the export release of Lenzing Ecovero.
He believes that by taking into account the global trend toward green products, the product can be well-received in the European market and, further, will enhance the export value of the national textile industry.
Aside from the international market, Taufiek affirmed that the Ministry continues to optimize product absorption in the domestic market. In achieving this goal, he invites all stakeholders to support the industry.
“The Ministry will strengthen the regulation, aiming to enhance investment and support technology transformation which adopts green industry concept,” said Taufiek.
Responding to this investment, President Director of PT SPV Sri Aditia conveyed, “Our company is committed to transforming our technology by adopting sustainability concept which is reflected in our product.”
The additional investment is claimed to reduce sulfur and carbon emissions while reducing water waste. SPV’s factory in Purwakarta also plans to produce a unique fiber, Lenzing Ecovero Black, in 2023. The production process will reduce water waste and energy consumption in fabric dyeing.
