Indika Energy made an undisclosed investment in Damon and will serve as the distributor for EV motorcycles in Indonesia.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — A diversified energy company in Indonesia, PT Indika Energy Tbk., entered into a partnership with a Canadian premier EV motorbike company, Damon Motors. Indika also made an undisclosed investment in Damon and will serve as the distributor for Damon motorcycles in the Indonesian market.
Through the partnership, Damon is developing a new global motorcycle platform, primarily to provide commuters in geographic areas dominated by two-wheeled mobility. This platform shares key technology with Damon’s other vehicles, making them cleaner, safer, and more efficient than all options.
Vice President Director and Group CEO of Indika Energy Azis Armand conveyed, “Indonesia has a great opportunity to transform the riding experience for millions of people dependent on two wheels. Our vision for an electrified roadway mirrors Damon’s.” Through the subsidiary, PT Ilectra Motor Group (IMG), Indika intends to develop EV motorcycles and its supporting ecosystem in Indonesia.
Azis believes that the partnership will open more opportunities for collaboration to accelerate the company’s go-to-market strategy and meet the country’s net-zero goal. He said, “This also aligns with Indika Energy’s commitment to achieving net zero by 2050.”
Meanwhile, the Co-founder and CEO of Damon Jay Giraud revealed that his journey with Damon started in Indonesia. Jay expected that the partnership with Indika Energy will open the door to transforming the industry on a global level one day. “Indonesia has set a goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2060. Damon is equally committed to Indika Energy to achieve this goal together,” said Jay.
Aiming to transform two-wheel transportation
Jay was inspired to build Damon when he visited Jakarta, Indonesia, a country with the largest penetration of two-wheeled vehicles in the world, back in 2016. At that time, he believed he could rival existing gas-driven motorcycle options that ultimately offer no safety features.
In 2017, Jay teamed up with co-founder Dom Kwong establishing Damon to transform two-wheel transportation, with an aim to reduce motorcycle accidents on the road by the millions.
Currently, Damon received nearly s $100 million in orders for its renowned motorcycles. The company launched HyperSport at a tech event CES 2020 and HyperFighter at CES 2022. The two models provide safety, comfort, 5G connectivity, and performance with innovative technology and zero tailpipe emissions.
Exclusive features include an advanced warning system CoPilot 360º with a 7-inch LCD display that streams a rearview from the rear-facing camera. The Shift feature will transform the riding position between sport and commuter modes while in motion. Meanwhile, the HyperDrive feature is claimed to be the world’s first monocoque constructed, 100% electric, multi-variant powertrain platform, which enables Damon to share a common platform with sibling models.
Damon’s cutting-edge innovation has received multiple awards, spanning the CES 2020 and 2022 Innovation Award, the Edison Best New Product Award, the Big Sustainability Award, Fast Company’s World Changing Idea, the Good Design Award, a Digital Trends Top Tech, a Red Herring Top 100, a North America finalist award for CleanTech, Popular Science’s Best of What’s New Award, and a Robb Report “Best of the Best” award for motorcycle innovation.
