Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s manufacturing sector continues to be the main driver of the national economy. In the second quarter of 2024, Indonesia’s GDP growth reached 5.05%, higher than many G20 countries such as China, Russia, and Brazil. The non-oil and gas processing industry remained the most significant contributor to national GDP, accounting for 16.70%, with the sector growing by 4.63%.
Based on the World Bank, the archipelago’s Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) ranked 12th globally, valued at US$255 billion in 2023. This achievement places Indonesia ahead of other ASEAN countries, such as Thailand and Vietnam. It surpasses significant nations, including the United States, Japan, Germany, South Korea, France, and the United Kingdom.
“The robust performance of the manufacturing sector is also driven by the accelerated implementation of the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap. This matter is a key strategy for Indonesia to become one of the world’s top 10 largest economies by 2030,” Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said.
For this reason, the significance of transforming towards Industry 4.0 was emphasized in the Making Indonesia 4.0 program, launched in 2018, and has been a cornerstone of Indonesia’s strategy to become one of the top 20 economies worldwide by 2030.
The Minister praised the survey report on 76 industries that earned the “Champion INDI 4.0” title for achieving positive output in their Industry 4.0 transformation efforts. These champion industries met transformation criteria, including a reduction in energy consumption by 4% – 40%, an increase in productivity by 5% – 22%, and a decrease in production costs by 3% – 78%.
“I am pleased that today we have added 24 industries to the Champion INDI 4.0 group, bringing the total to 100 INDI 4.0 Champion industries. I expect around 50 more industrial companies to join next year,” said Agus.
The Minister encouraged industries that are part of Champion INDI 4.0 to remain consistent in their transformation towards Industry 4.0, with the goal of more companies becoming role models as Industry 4.0 lighthouses both nationally and globally as part of the Global Lighthouse Network – World Economic Forum (WEF).
“Let’s make the sixth anniversary of the Making Indonesia 4.0 program a momentum to accelerate the transformation of our manufacturing sector further,” he added.
