Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan on Monday (09/23) inspected imported goods, including Turkish carpets and rugs, discovered by the Task Force for supervising certain goods under import regulations.
The Task Force previously secured 2,939 rolls of Turkish carpets and rugs, with an estimated value of Rp10 billion. These imported goods were found in a warehouse in the Jatake Industrial Area, Tangerang, Banten.
“Today, we are inspecting the goods found by the Task Force. The Task Force continues its duty to ensure orderly trade activities, safeguard domestic industries, and ensure business operators comply with the applicable regulations. This is to guarantee no harm to the state, no consumer losses, and no disruption to other businesses,” Zulkifli Hasan emphasized.
The carpets and rugs secured by the Task Force were imported without the required Import Approval and Surveyor’s Report. These products also lacked the necessary registration documents related to Safety, Health, and Environmental Protection.
Zulkifli explained, “The imported carpets and rugs discovered by the Task Force this time violate the provisions of Minister of Trade Regulation No. 36 of 2023 on Import Policies and Regulations, as amended by Minister of Trade Regulation No. 8 of 2024. These imports also contravene Minister of Trade Regulation No. 26 of 2021 on establishing Business Activities Standards and Products in the Risk-Based Licensing for the Trade Sector.”
He added, “Today’s activity results from cross-sectoral coordination in supervising certain goods under import regulations. I appreciate the efforts of the ministries and agencies involved in monitoring non-compliant products.”
The Minister also urged business operators to conduct trade activities following existing regulations. He said this is crucial for consumer safety and the sustainability of domestic industries. “We ask business operators in various fields to comply with the prevailing regulations, particularly regarding the import of goods. This is important to ensure consumer safety and protect domestic industries,” Zulkifli concluded.
