Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljo revealed that four road sections in Papua’s disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost areas (3T regions) have been completed.

“With this achievement, production areas in Papua are now connected,” Basuki explained.

Basuki explained that the four 3T road sections that have been accomplished are located in two regencies, including the Trans Woor-Bewan in Keerom Regency and the Biak Numfor Regency.

“The total length of the roads handled is 22km, with 10km in Keerom Regency and 12km in Biak Numfor Regency. The total budget allocated for this was US$8.4 million (around Rp134,84 billion),” Basuki affirmed.

Minister Basuki also mentioned that this road construction was carried out under the Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads (IJD), Presidential Instruction No.3/2022 on Accelerating the Improvement of Regional Road Connectivity. These roads are intended to connect various economic centers.

“IJD addresses damaged Provincial, Regency, or City roads that link production areas, such as agriculture and tourism,” he said.

Basuki also mentioned that for the 2023 fiscal year, the Ministry of PUPR allocated a budget of US$913 million, approximately Rp14.6 trillion nationally, to manage about 2,873km of regional roads.

“This development includes transportation, ports, and other production areas. For this year, the IJD will continue with a budget of around US$939 million, equal to Rp15 trillion (nationally),” Basuki added.

Regarding further development in Papua, he said that the Ministry of PUPR is currently constructing the Trans Papua Road, Jayapura-Wamena Segment, Mamberamo-Elelim section, spanning 50.14km, aimed at supporting the main transportation and logistics corridor as well as enhancing inter-city connectivity.

According to Basuki, PUPR has allocated US$209 million, approximately Rp3,339 trillion, for this project using the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.
