Heaptalk, Jakarta — The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, inaugurated the Siboru Airport in FakFak Regency, West Papua. (11/23)
In his remarks, Jokowi delivered that the Papua region, including FakFak, continuously demonstrates economic improvement. For this reason, the President recognized that constructing Siboru Airport in an area known as the philosophy of Satu Tungku Tiga Batu (translated as One Furnace Three Stones) is the right strategy.
“As we know, transportation access in Papua still needs to be developed. The inauguration of this airport will increase connectivity in Papua, increase the mobility of goods, and open up many opportunities to trigger new economic growth.” President Jokowi said in his statement.
However, Jokowi admitted that this region’s transportation access still needs several improvements. He viewed that several areas are still difficult to reach, resulting in long travel times from one location to another. According to him, the newly inaugurated airport will become an air bridge in each province. Siboru Airport, which is located in Fakfak Regency, is considered to be able to connect several districts, spanning Sorong Regency, Kaimana Regency, and Teluk Bintuni Regency.
“Siboru Airport will be an air bridge in the West Papua region. This transportation access can link FakFak Regency with other regions,” The President added.
Jokowi suggested the board of regional government continue developing the infrastructure, which is expected to facilitate society in utilizing this transportation access for their mobility, particularly in introducing the tremendous potential in Papua.
“We must utilize increasing transportation access to introduce the potential that exists in this region, such as the existing tourist destinations possessed, and increase tourist visits to Papua Province,” Jokowi said in his closing statement.
