Heaptalk, Jakarta — At the beginning of August 2024, the East Kutai Regency Government received the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) status for the National Health Insurance Program (JKN-KIS) from BPJS Kesehatan. BPJS Kesehatan’s President Director Ghufron Mukti handed over the award to Bahrani Hasanal, Head of the East Kutai Health Department.
Bahrani Hasanal stated that the achievement of UHC is a result of implementing Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2022 regarding the Optimization of the JKN Program. As of July 2024, there are 463,968 participants registered in the JKN program, which is 107.99% of the total population of East Kutai, approximately 429,640 people. “Thank God, we have met the target with the number of participants,” explained Bahrani.
The measure provides guaranteed health protection for the community. This has a positive impact as it reduces the burden on the public when they need medical treatment at hospitals. He added, “Our community is covered by BPJS Kesehatan for those registered in the JKN program.”
In his remarks, BPJS Kesehatan’s President Director Ghufron Mukti also expressed his gratitude to all regional leaders for the success of the JKN Program. The achievement of UHC in multiple regions is a result of implementing Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2022 on the Optimization of the National Health Insurance Program (JKN).
“As of August 1, 2024, the number of JKN participants has reached 276,520,647 people, or 98.15% of the total population in Indonesia. This achievement is not only about the number of participants but also about ensuring that all residents have access to health services,” concluded Ghufron.
