Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Indonesian government plans to build an undersea toll road in the new capital city, Nusantara Capital (IKN). “This project will be Indonesia’s first undersea toll road. The country’s big dream of having an undersea toll road will come true,” explained Danis H. Sumadilaga, Head of the Task Force for implementing IKN Development, on Sunday (09/29).
The construction of the toll road, which includes an immersed tunnel, is expected to begin in 2025. Danis mentioned that the project is still in the design phase and has not yet started construction. He added, “Currently, we are still conducting a feasibility study.”
Regarding the detailed engineering design (DED), the undersea toll road in Nusantara Capital is part of segments 4A-4B. The Directorate General of Highways is preparing the DED at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR). “The financing process will determine whether the project will be a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) or funded through the State Budget,” Danis stated. He mentioned that a tender process would be required if the project is funded through the State Budget.
Previously, Wida Nurfaida, Director of Road Construction at the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Public Works and Housing, mentioned that the immersed tunnel in the IKN Toll Road Segment 4A would be developed in collaboration with the South Korean government. “The estimated cost for completing the immersed tunnel is approximately Rp11 trillion,” Wida concluded.
