Heaptalk, Jakarta — Job search platform LinkedIn announced layoffs of 668 employees, marking its second round of workforce reduction this year (10/16). Impacted roles include engineering, product, talent, and finance teams.

The company admitted that talent changes are a difficult, but necessary and a regular part of managing the business. “While we are adapting our organizational structures and streamlining our decision making, we are continuing to invest in strategic priorities for our future and to ensure we continue to deliver value for our members and customers,” stated LinkedIn on its official page (10/16).

LinkedIn added, “We are committed to providing our full support to all impacted employees during this transition and ensuring that they are treated with care and respect.”

The first round of job cuts was carried out in May 2023 affecting approximately 716 employees. At the same time, LinkedIn announced a plan to terminate its job search app in China.

“In an evolving market, we must continuously have the conviction to adapt our strategy to make our vision a reality. As we turn 20, we are entering a new decade for LinkedIn, perhaps the most consequential we have ever experienced. AI is just beginning to accelerate changes in the global economy and labor market. LinkedIn is more essential than ever to help our members and customers navigate the obstacles to access economic opportunity,” said the CEO of LinkedIn Ryan Roslansky as quoted by Aljazeera.

In October 2023, the company released the pilot of its recent AI-powered tool called Recruiter 2024. The new AI-assisted recruiting experience is claimed to make hiring easier and more efficient, allowing talent leaders to focus on the most strategic, people-centric work for their jobs.

Simultaneously, LinkedIn also introduced an AI-powered coaching tool in LinkedIn Learning to provide a chatbot experience offering real-time advice and tailored content recommendations based on job title, career goal, and the skills followed.
