Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia and Russia are strengthening their strategic communication and digital technology cooperation. This expansion of collaboration coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. One key area of cooperation is the development of affordable and high-speed internet.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), Nezar Patria, stated that the partnership includes developing 5G mobile network technology, broadband, the digital ecosystem, e-commerce, postal services, and emerging digital technologies.
“We are opening up several opportunities for enhanced cooperation, including telecommunications, the digital ecosystem, e-commerce, postal services, and emerging technologies,” he said after receiving an official visit from Russia’s Deputy Minister for Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media, Andrey Zarenin, at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (04/15).
Nezar also expressed Indonesia’s interest in expanding international connectivity, including internet bandwidth and data transmission. He compared Russia’s ability to provide high-speed internet access at very affordable prices. He explained, “If we cooperate, we can reduce internet costs, as we need internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps at a very low cost, like in Russia. So, I think this is a very promising initiative, and hopefully, we can build a collaboration to follow it up.”
Russia’s Deputy Minister, Andrey Zarenin, affirmed his country’s readiness to strengthen digital synergy with Indonesia. He said this would be realized through technology exchange, sharing best practices, and establishing a Joint Indonesia–Russia Commission for Information Technology and the Digital Society. “Optimistically, I see the future of Indonesia–Russia relations moving forward directly and opening up broader opportunities,” he concluded.
