Heaptalk, Jakarta — On Wednesday (5/2), Budi Setyadi, Chairman of the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Association (Aismoli), stated that thousands of electric motorbike are currently being stockpiled.
This accumulation is due to the high prices. “The high prices are caused by waiting for the government’s decision on whether to continue the subsidies for electric motorbikes, which stopped at the end of 2024,” said Budi.
Last year, the government provided a subsidy of Rp7 million per unit to purchase electric motorbikes. However, to stimulate public purchasing power, the government is currently reviewing whether to continue providing subsidies for the purchase of electric motorbikes.
Based on data from the Two-Wheeled Electric Motorized Vehicle Purchase Assistance Information System (Sisapira), the number of electric motorbike subsidies distributed last year amounted to 62,541 units. Meanwhile, the number of electric motorbike subsidies distributed exceeded the achievement of 2023 by 11,532 units. Budi also mentioned that Aismoli has held a meeting with the Ministry of Industry in Jakarta to address this issue. “However, there is no final decision yet,” added Budi.
Rudy Salahuddin, Deputy for Coordination of Industry, Employment, and Tourism at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, stated that the clarity of new electric motorbike subsidies still awaits the finance minister’s regulation. “We still implement the Rp7 million subsidy for two-wheelers. Hence, we hope that if there are new regulations from the finance minister, they will still refer to the presidential regulation,” concluded Rudy.
