Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s president, Prabowo Subianto, called on his ministers to use locally manufactured Pindad vehicles as their official transportation.
Responding to Prabowo’s mandate, Pindad’s CEO, Abraham Mose, stated that the company is awaiting specific regulations regarding the procurement process for each ministry following Prabowo’s instruction.
“We are still waiting for further measures since there will surely be rules or producers for each ministry’s procurement,” Abraham said.
Abraham expressed that Prabowo’s directive represents a concrete step by the president in supporting the domestic industry. He noted that the government provides opportunities for Pindad to establish a self-sufficient automotive sector in Indonesia by doing so.
Abraham also mentioned that no ministries outside the Ministry of Defense have yet requested the Pindad Maung for official vehicles. Pindad is currently focused on meeting the Ministry of Defense’s demands.
“There has not been any demand from other ministries, as this was only discussed in Magelang recently,” he conveyed.
Pindad has partnered with Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense to supply approximately 4,000 units, with initial deliveries already underway. Previously, Deputy Minister of Finance Anggito Abimayu confirmed that the eighth President of Indonesia, Prabowo, had instructed ministries and officials at the Directorate-General level in the new government administration to use the domestically produced Pindad Maung Jeep as their official vehicles.
“I will use the Maung vehicle next week, one of Pindad’s products,” Anggito conveyed.
According to Anggito, this directive aims to reduce Indonesia’s reliance on luxury car imports for ministerial and echelon I requirements.
