Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Cilacap Samudera Fishing Industry Tbk (ASHA) announced its cooperation with Melbourne Seafood Distributors (MSD), an Australia-based seafood distributor company (6/8). The strategic cooperation is intended to reinforce ASHA’s export activity and double the company’s income in 2022.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is represented by William Sutioso, President Director of ASHA, and Chris Pappas, Director of MSD. The activity was also witnessed by Benjamin Giles, Commissioner of Queensland Trade and Investment, and the Shareholder and Partner of MSD, Terry Melas.

As stated in the press release, ASHA will export a minimum of 800 tons of its fishery products, including fish fillets and fish blocks – a floured fish wrapped in the retail packages. The fishery products will be distributed to all MSD partners across Australia spanning supermarkets, and retailers.

William claimed that the MoU signing would provide an incredible benefit for Indonesia to improve its capability to generate an added value product. He is confident that this strategic action will positively impact Indonesia’s society by minimizing the unemployment rate.

Performing this agenda, ASHA is estimated to secure a US$5,5 million revenue (USD1 equals Rp14,569). The enormous demands from Australia towards Indonesia’s fishery products is predicted will enhance the value to around 20% to 25% in the following year.

William added, “This partnership is a great opportunity for Indonesian seafood to be a leader in the global market, particularly in Australia. ASHA expects that the cooperation can strengthen the bilateral relationships between Indonesia and Australia.”

Australia’s covid-19 restriction has been eased and certainly increase the demand for fisheries. Realizing this opportunity, ASHA decided to perform long-term cooperation with MSD.

In response to this strategic collaboration, the Director of MSD, Chris Pappas, affirmed “This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new business partners and open numerous prosperous for both parties in the future. The partnership is a proper stage for both parties to retain the relations and unlock new business opportunities.”

This strategic agreement is also fully supported by Australia’s government. The Commissioner of Queensland Trade and Investment, Benjamin Giles revealed, “We are very excited, from Queensland and Australia, for the collaboration between Indonesia and Australia. I expect to be more fantastic products coming from Indonesia, going back to Australia, yummy seafood, and also, perhaps there are more collaboration in technology, and experiences from Australian partners.”

As additional information, this integrated fishery company has expanded its business reach to the Asia market, including China and Thailand, as the primary market with high demand. ASHA has also reached multiple Asia markets, namely Taiwan, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Regardless of expansion to Asia and Australia, the Indonesia-based fishery company also plans to enlarge its market reach to the Middle East and America. (SFM)
