Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) has deployed five indoor base transceiver stations (BTS) to strengthen network coverage and capacity around the Madya Stadium in Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) during the AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2025 qualifiers.
As the official sponsor of Indonesia’s National Football Team, this effort aims to provide full support and ensure that spectators can stay connected to the internet during matches leading up to the AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2025 qualifiers. According to Steve Saerang, SVP Head of Corporate Communications at IOH, Indosat’s network enhancement is intended to boost fans’ spirits as they support Indonesia’s pride in pursuing victory.
“With the network enhancements, fans using Indosat services can enjoy smooth internet connectivity during the matches without worrying about disruptions. This aligns with Indosat’s mission to connect and empower the people of Indonesia, including in international sports competitions,” said Steve.
Serving over 25 million customers in Jakarta
In the first half of 2024, this provider served more than 25 million customers in the Greater Jakarta Circle (Jaya), which includes the Greater Jakarta, Banten, Karawang, and Sukabumi. Its network is equipped with nearly 45,000 4G BTS, covering 186 districts within the Jaya Circle. Additionally, Indosat claims to have improved capacity, throughput, and latency across its network to ensure optimal services.
The network-strengthening efforts for supporters of the Indonesian National Team at Madya Stadium GBK began during an international football tournament in June 2024. During that event, the provider served connectivity to more than 13,000 IM3 and Tri customers. The enhancement also proved reliable during the Indonesia vs Tanzania match in June 2024, where data traffic surged significantly by 155% compared to the daily average.
