Heaptalk, Jakarta — Commission C of the Depok City Council has provided several recommendations regarding development in Depok City during a plenary meeting with the agenda of closing the second session of the 2024 legislative year, held at the Depok City Council building on Tuesday (09/03).
Muhammad Supariyono, Commission C member, stated that the Depok City Government needs to arrange a grand design for urban development to address the rapid population growth. “A global and measurable plan for each district is needed to tackle issues such as traffic congestion, flooding, and waste management,” Supariyono said.
For infrastructure, including roads, bridges, buildings, and water resources, the city government should collaborate with toll road operators to review or reestablish agreements regarding the expansion of Parung Bingung Street. In education, Commission C encourages the addition of new classrooms for schools in need, both public and private.
Furthermore, Supariyono suggested that for transportation, the city government should maximize existing transportation tools, such as trains, by improving access to stations in Depok City, particularly in Depok Lama. “This area has many street vendors that obstruct pedestrians, and the transportation facilities are poorly organized, causing traffic congestion. Therefore, we urge immediate restructuring,” he added.
Additionally, street lighting has also been a concern for Commission C. Regular maintenance of public street lighting in Depok City is necessary. “There are numerous complaints from residents regarding street lighting, both on main roads and alternative routes, which still lack adequate illumination,” Supariyono concluded.
