Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s President, Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, recently met with President Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar at the Casablanca Room, Mulia Hotel, Jakarta.
During the bilateral meeting, Jokowi highlighted the potential for collaboration in the blue economy sector. He noted that Indonesia is ready to be a key partner for Tanzania and Zanzibar, drawing on its extensive experience managing maritime businesses, marine tourism, and ecosystem conservation.
The President also mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on blue economy development with Tanzania had already been signed and expressed hope that this could be extended to Zanzibar.
“Indonesia seeks to become a critical partner for Tanzania and Zanzibar, and we are ready to share our expertise in business management, marine tourism, and marine ecosystem conservation,” President Jokowi stated.
Additionally, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of tourism cooperation, expressing Indonesia’s readiness to share its experience in promoting and managing eco-friendly and sustainable tourism.
“Currently, an MoU on tourism cooperation with Tanzania and Zanzibar is under internal discussion, and we hope this partnership will strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two countries,” the President added.
Lastly, President Jokowi reiterated Indonesia’s readiness to collaborate on development programs in Zanzibar through the Indonesia Aid mechanism, which would be tailored to Zanzibar’s needs.
The President said, “We are open to working with Zanzibar through programs tailored to its needs via the Indonesian Aid mechanism. ”
President Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
