Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, emphasized that the government will not tolerate any form of cybercrime, including data theft.
“I intend to clarify that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics will not tolerate overall cybercrime cases. Personal data security is our top priority, and any violations will be dealt with firmly,” he stated.
According to Minister Budi, personal data protection is the government’s primary priority, and any breaches will be addressed without exception. This matter includes personal data theft cases involving a partner of telecom service provider Indosat Ooredoo.
“The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has taken concrete steps to respond to this incident,” he affirmed.
He has summoned Indosat Ooredoo’s Board of Directors to explain the incident directly. The meeting will also discuss necessary measures to improve the company’s data protection systems.
“Today, we are calling Indosat’s Board of Directors to discuss handling this incident and ensure that corrective actions are promptly taken,” he explained.
Minister Budi also reminded us that mobile telecommunication services ensure consumer protection, maintain service quality and comply with all applicable regulations.
“This case covers the Telecommunications Law and the Personal Data Protection Law. Every telecom company must be accountable for the security of customer data. There can be no compromise on this issue,” he stressed.
