Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), Indonesia’s first private satellite company, has entered into a collaboration with Elena Geo Tech, a navigation-based manufacturing company in Bengaluru, India, to develop a satellite navigation system in Indonesia. Representatives from both companies signed an MoU at the India Space New Congress in New Delhi, India.
The system to be developed will include positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) aimed at the transportation services sector, air and sea navigation, and defense. By applying satellite navigation in Indonesia, all sectors that require and use PNT will benefit from accurate positioning, speed, direction, and timing, resulting in high precision and efficiency.
As a national company, PSN continues to develop in providing satellite-based services. In its 33 years of operation, PSN has focused on communication services. Satrio Adiwicaksono, PSN’s Director of Technology, stated that the company is strategically expanding into the navigation field, recognizing the vast potential that can still be harnessed from the satellite industry.
To produce its satellite-based PNT system
“The international collaboration between PSN and Elena demonstrates that as a national company, we continuously strive to strengthen the space ecosystem by building manufacturing capabilities in Indonesia’s satellite industry, including satellite-based PNT. By managing it independently, we believe it will support the government in creating economic independence in the national satellite industry,” Satrio said in his written statement.
Adi Rahman Adiwoso, CEO of PSN, stated that the company chose Elena after considering the company’s track record in producing satellite-based navigation systems. The company also observed that the satellite industry in India is highly advanced due to strong government support. As a result, India has successfully developed the Navigation with Indian Constellation system through the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Furthermore, Adi mentioned that his party will leverage this momentum for technology transfer so that Indonesia can produce its own satellite-based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing system in the future. “Together with Elena, we will delve into comprehensive planning programs and map out potential collaboration in creating Indonesia’s Positioning, Navigation, and Timing system and market it effectively when launched,” Adi concluded.
