Heaptalk, Jakarta – The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) announced that the distribution of Indonesian Smart Cards (KIP) fund continues to run on track despite the ransomware attack on the National Data Center (PDN) in Surabaya, Indonesia.

The General Secretary of Kemenbudristek, Suharti, claimed that the backup data of the KIP beneficiaries is safe in Kemendikbudristek’s data center and the disbursement section.

“Students who are listed as KIP beneficiaries do not need to worry because, during the recovery process, the disbursement of KIP fund keeps on going based on its schedule, namely on August, no delay,” stated Suharti, as reported by Antara. (07/01)

Surharti, further, explained that the ministry strives to restore their systems by using their backup data to ensure that all students can obtain the benefit.

“We strive to restore KIP services promptly based on our backup data, which was managed at Kemendikbudristek’s data center. Strong coordination with universities also is carried out to guarantee the students’ rights, both for the existing beneficiaries or the new ones,” stated Suharti.

Previously, a total of 853,393 Indonesian Smart Cards (KIP) data which was managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud), reportedly lost due to the impact of Ransomware Lockbit 3.0, which attacked PDN on 20 June. To overcome this issue, Suharti announced that for student who experience problem to claim this benefit should reregister their KIP account starting from 29 July to 31 August 2024.

For this incident, Kemendikbudristek also instructed universities to extend the due date of tuition payment for students who are registered as KIP beneficiaries.
