Heaptalk, Jakarta — Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) transportation mode is reportedly soon extended to South Tangerang through third-party funding. Mayor Benyamin Davnie conveyed the news during his visit to East Ciputat District on Tuesday (06/18).
Benyamin stated that his administration plans to undertake the mega project of building a Mass Rapid Transit system. In addition, he also aims to develop a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system. Although the budget of the South Tangerang City Government will not be sufficient to finance the MRT and LRT mega projects, he is actively pursuing cooperation for third-party funding, specifically sourced from PT MRT Jakarta and residential developers in the South Tangerang area.
“We are collaborating with PT MRT Jakarta and developers in South Tangerang City to jointly build the MRT to South Tangerang, including promoting the LRT. The funding will come from third-party investments rather than the Regional Budget,” he explained.
Benyamin has not provided detailed information on the construction timeline for the LRT project. However, he targets visible physical construction by 2027. He said, “I hope that by 2027, we will start seeing the MRT and LRT buildings in South Tangerang.”
The South Tangerang City Government is striving to expedite the execution of these two projects. Benyamin also hopes for support from the Banten Provincial Government to implement policies that will accelerate their development. The Jakarta-South Tangerang LRT project plan includes three phases: Phase 1 Lebak Bulus-Pondok Cabe, Phase 2 Cisauk-Serpong, and Phase 3 Pamulang-Rawa Buntu.
