Heaptalk, Jakarta — Lalamove, an on-demand delivery platform from Hong Kong, is actively promoting the use of new energy by its platform drivers. Over the past year, more than 50% of van orders in China have been fulfilled by new energy vehicles. Meanwhile, 100% of its rental business in China comprises new energy vehicles.
The platform has collaborated with electric vehicle charging companies and financial institutions in China to provide exclusive discounts on EV charging facilities, insurance, and vehicle maintenance services. This collaboration has expanded the charging network to include over 55,000 new energy charging stations and 670,000 EV chargers, offering charging discounts to driver-partners in 327 cities.
In the recently published Sustainability Report 2023, Lalamove has set ambitious but achievable short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals to achieve net-zero emissions and significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions. In the short term, Lalamove aims for 50% of orders in China to be fulfilled by new energy vehicles by 2028.
Aiming to achieve NZE by 2040
In addition, by 2025, the platform aims to operate paperlessly, diverting 30% of waste from landfills and ensuring all hazardous waste is disposed of by qualified collectors or recyclers. In the medium term, the company aims to achieve net-zero emissions across Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. In the long term, the company seeks to increase the proportion of new energy vehicles on the platform.
“Last year marked the tenth anniversary of Lalamove’s establishment. As we look ahead to the next decade, we are pleased to share our latest annual sustainability report with everyone. This report compiles extensive data on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) following the standards set by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI),” stated Lalamove’s Corporate Affairs Director Bill Li in his official statement.
The annual sustainability report highlights the company’s commitment to ESG values. The company has also established an internal greenhouse gas (GHG) management system and voluntarily disclosed its GHG data in 2023. Bill said, “This system not only helps us monitor future carbon emissions associated with our operations but also enables us to formulate better carbon reduction strategies. This is crucial for addressing emissions from vehicles on our platform, which are the primary source of our business’s carbon emissions.”
Lalamove operates in 11 countries, serving more than 13.4 million users and 1.2 million driver partners. The company leverages technology to improve logistics efficiency and meet the delivery needs of various communities, stakeholders, and partners.
