Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Commercial Vehicle Expo (GIICOMVEC) 2024 was officially opened by the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang, in the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). (03/08)
In his opening remarks, Minister Agus appreciated the fantastic performance of the commercial vehicle industry, which is thriving again despite being hit by the pandemic several years ago. Based on his statement, the Ministry of Industry revealed that the country’s commercial vehicle industry was able to rebound by obtaining its production of 215,000 units and domestic sales reaching 200,000 units last year.
Furthermore, the Minister added, “Indonesia’s commercial vehicle has also elevated three years ago, whereby the industry’s export value touched USD473 million last year, multiplying around 33% compared to the former of only USD328 million in 2022,”
He also highlighted the double-cabin segment market, where most units are still imported directly from abroad under an import or Completely Built Up (CBU) scheme, with approximately 25,000 units annually. According to Agus’s perspective, Indonesia has tremendous potential compared to Thailand. However, most double-cabin pickups are imported from this White Elephant country. To elevate the automotive industry, the Ministry will retain its collaboration with Gaikindo to arrange the policy.
“Ministry of Industry and Gaikindo will face complicated obstacles. As we know, the turbulence of the global economy warned us to be prudent. For this reason, we perceived the significance of strategic cooperation between government and private to retain a steadfast enhancement of the country’s automotive industry”
In the opening of GIICOMVEC 2024, the Chairman of Gaikindo, Yohanes Nangoi, delivered the number of commercial vehicle sales that reached 1 million units in 2023. As a result, he claimed that the commercial vehicles industry had a portion of about 23.6%.
