Heaptalk, Jakarta – A behemoth ICT company, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), announced has conducted several mitigations to overcome the surge in internet traffic as Christmas and New Year 2024 near.
According to SVP Head of Corporate Communication IOH Steve Saerang, in welcoming Christmas and New Year 2024, IOH enhanced the network quality and capacity to anticipate traffic surge especially in prioritized locations. In order to monitor the network capability, IOH also has adopted Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
In more detail, IOH projected that data traffic will escalate by 11.5% during Christmas and New Year celebration. This increase is caused by the enhancement of SNS utilization, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Youtube, and games app, such as Mobile Legends, Roblox, PUBG, and other apps.
To mitigate the traffic stream, Steve, during the Press Conference for Christmas and New Year 2024 preparation, explained that IOH has improved its 4G BTS network capacity. “So, 1150 RAN upgraded, 13 Mobile-BTS deployed, 527 E2E capacity upgrade.” (12/21)
Moreover, he uttered, “M-BTS has been provided in several point of interest that is predicted will experience traffic spike, such as in airports, bus stations, church, port, tourist destination, and mall, in total, there are 434 points of interests (POI). Through this measure, we have enlarged our capacity to up to 33% compared to the daily traffic.”
Indosat also has focused on 88 POI in Jakarta, 5 big toll road or approximately 345 km in Java, and has carried out drive test in some areas. spanning Trans Jawa, Trans Sumatera, Cikampek, Samarinda, and Balikpapan. The result will be utilized as the benchmark to ensure the optimality of Indosat’s network by activating Command Centre 24/7 that is centred on Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Network Operation Center (INOC) and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Service Operation (ISOC). This Command Center is supported by AI/ML which automatically monitor the network capacity. Based on the drive test, IOH claimed that the its network coverage is excellent the speed average of 50Mbps.
