Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Online Travel Agent (OTA) startup, Pegipegi, officially ceased business operations on December 11th, 2023, after over a decade of its presence.
As disclosed on its official website, the Management team of Pegipegi conveyed, “Almost 12 years as a community travel solution is an irreplaceable company achievement for Pegipegi. However, with a heavy heart, Pegipegi had to say goodbye on December 11, 2023. We express our deepest gratitude to the customers who have made Pegipegi their travel companion.”
As cited from Dailysocial, although the company has not responded regarding the reasons for closing Pegipegi’s operations, signals of a weakening of the travel agent startup business have been detected since the resignation of Pegipegi’s CEO, Serlina Wijaya, amidst a reduction in the quantity of promotion programs this year.
Moreover, The pandemic also reduced OTA business growth in 2020. However, Pegipegi retrieved their business combined in two primary companies, reaching 51% in Q1 2021. In the process of business operations closure, Pegipegi conveyed several crucial information to customers:
- The Pegipegi platform received the last orders from customers on December 10, 2023, at 23:59 WIB.
- All customer payments for transportation tickets and hotel rooms in the Pegipegi application will remain valid. Customers can still check-in and use air and ground transportation according to their chosen hotel departure/check-in period. Order information can be accessed via the email used when making an order.
- Customers can contact the team via email at [email protected] if they have questions or other matters such as refunds, schedule changes, or complaints.
“We also thank all accommodation, aviation, data transportation partners and all other partners from various industries who have supported the company in providing the best customer service.” the management said on its official website.
Prior to sealing its business operations, this platform was acquired by an affiliate of Traveloka, Jet Tech Innovation Ventures Pte Ltd (Jet Tech), in March 2018. Despite Jet Tech being affiliated with Traveloka, both entities continue to run their businesses independently. In its outgrowth, this OTA startup has been downloaded up to 4 million times in 2019.
