Heaptalk, Sangatta – East Kutai Regent Ardiansyah Sulaiman held a meeting with East Kalimantan Provincial Prosecutor to discuss regional development in the area (06/12). The meeting aims to accommodate the regency’s achievements and requirements to be delivered to the central government.

During the meeting, Ardiansyah explained the regency is home to 425 thousand population with a total area of 35,748 square meters, the second largest regency in East Kalimantan.

He also added, “East Kutai’s Government strives to enhance the region’s development. Previously, in its inception, the regency only had 5 sub-districts, but now it has grown into 15 sub-districts with 139 villages. Moreover, about 11 villages are still in the validation process, waiting for approval from Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration.”

He voiced that almost the entire villages in the area have tourism potential. Therefore, the Regent asked for guidance from the Provincial Prosecutors to develop this potential.

In terms of the existing potential, the Regent explained that the local government had put oil palm plantations into its strategic development plan considering its promising contribution to the region’s economy.

“We are grateful that oil palm becomes the second largest source of foreign exchange after tourism,” said Ardiansyah.

In replying to Ardiansyah’s statement, the Head of East Kalimantan Provincial Prosecutor Hari Setiyono stated that the authority would fully support East Kutai’s measure to advance the region. He also added that East Kutai would get a warm welcome from the Provincial Prosecutor if someday it asks for any assistance to develop the region.
