Heaptalk, Jakarta – Global cyber security firm, Fortinet, reveals the latest survey regarding Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) in Asia Pacific. Based on the survey, the complexity and risk of cyber threats are growing like a snowball, caused by the emergence of ‘branch-office-of-one’ which was the result of a hybrid working era.
In this survey, IDC – that was assigned by Fortinet – conducted a survey in nine countries in APAC to find out the mindset of cybersecurity leaders regarding the hybrid era, its impact on the private sectors, and their strategies to mitigate the cybersecurity challenge.
The survey shows that the hybrid era has contributed to a large number of cyberattacks. Vice President of Marketing and Communication Fortinet Rashish Pandey explained, “The shift, to hybrid working era, creates ‘Branch-office-of-one’. This ‘branch-office-of-one’ is the future because 96% of businesses embrace hybrid or remote work. However, 30% of devices connecting to the network in Indonesia are unmanaged and the number of unmanaged connections is predicted will increase by 50% in 2025. These unmanaged connections, further, contain a big potential to cyber threats.”
In line with Pande’s view, Country Director of Fortinet Indonesia Edwin Lim stated, “Recently, along with digitalization, we have to realize the high potential of cyber threat. When we enter the digital era, the threat is increasingly sophisticated. We, as a user, only want free stuff. However, many of the threat actors invest in this free stuff”.
Moreover, employees in Indonesia require almost 30 connections to third-party cloud apps. This makes the potency of cyberattacks become bigger. In fact, 74% of Indonesian companies report an increase in cyberattack three-fold, and 82% of the respondent has experienced at least two times cyber security incidents. However, only 49% of entities in Asia have a special cybersecurity staff, making them to be more vulnerable.
To overcome this challenge, multiple Indonesian companies plan to cooperate with the standalone SASE Vendor solution to increase cybersecurity. Adopting SASE to manage network and cyber security, a company tends to seek a platform that converged to streamline its operational process.
Based on the survey, 86% of respondents in Indonesia prefer to choose a standalone vendor to handle network and security while 68% of them consolidate their IT vendor. Over 80% of respondents also chose a standalone vendor for the security service which was delivered through cloud and SDWAN.
Responding to this trend, Edwin Lim voiced, “Fortinet is committed to bridging the gap by delivering insight and improving awareness regarding cyber security to employees. Our standalone SASE Vendor solution aims to simplify the policy of cybersecurity and increase user experience for those who work from anywhere.“
