Heaptalk, Jakarta — xAI revealed its latest large language model Grok-2 family, consisting of Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini (08/13). These AI models are available in beta version on the X platform for premium and premium+ users.
Grok-2 is trained with text and vision understanding capabilities, integrating real-time information from the X platform, accessible through the Grok tab in the X app. The mini version is a small but capable model that balances speed and answer quality. Compared to its predecessor, xAI said that Grok-2 is more intuitive, steerable, and versatile across a wide range of tasks, whether you’re seeking answers, collaborating on writing or solving coding tasks.
Furthermore, xAI introduced an early version of Grok-2 under the name sus-column-r into the LMSYS chatbot arena, a popular competitive language model benchmark. The company claimed that this newly released LLM outperforms Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-4 Turbo. Besides the X platform, this AI model family will be released to developers later this month through the company’s new enterprise API platform.
“We are very excited about their applications to a range of AI-driven features, such as enhanced search capabilities, gaining deeper insights on X posts, and improved reply functions, all powered by Grok. Soon, we will release a preview of multimodal understanding as a core part of the Grok experience on X and API,” xAI said on its official blog (08/13).
As reported by TechCrunch, early images generated by users suggest that Grok’s image-generation feature has no guardrails around creating images of political figures. Many users are currently taking advantage of this. However, with the U.S. presidential election around the corner, the company will likely face pressure to add limits on these features.
